Fabric Flower Bouquet

Yes I'm alive and still kickin'! Sorry I missed y'all last week. I decided to take a step back from the blog and focus on Sign Me Up. It was exactly what I needed to do. I took a step back focused on the shop and found my creativity again.

Not only that but I kinda figured out a couple of things I want to do around the blog. BIG changes are coming people! BIG BIG BIG! Get ready.

Anyways... On to today's little crafty post!
Remember when I posted at Momma Hen's place like FOREVER ago? Yea just realized I never shared what I made here! So here it is.

A Fabric Flower Bouquet!

First gather all your scrap fabric.

Next cut strips of fabric about 1.5 inches x 44 inches (44-45 inches is the standard width for most fabrics)

(I folded mine over a bunch of times so I wouldn't have to make such long cuts.)

Next (on one side of the fabric) sew a line. You can use your sewing machine or a needle and thread.

I just used a needle and tread. Simply tie a not in on one end of the thread and stitch back and forth along one edge while slightly gathering the fabric onto the thread.

You will end up with ruffles that look like this.

Now turn on that glue gun! Once it's heated add some glue to the end of a dowel rod.

(I got a package of 20 or so dowel rods at Hobby Lobby for around $1)

Starting at one end of your fabric wrap the fabric around the dowel rod gluing ever so often.

You will end up with a rose looking fabric flower like above!

Keep going until you have your desired bouquet! I know just the place I want to put these too! I'll be giving a tutorial on Tuesday as to where my bouquet's are going!

Shamrock Texas {100 Years and still Rockin}

How was your weekend? I hope it was GREAT! This weekend we took a family vacation! We all traveled up to the Texas panhandle for Shamrock's 100th anniversary celebration!

Here's a little bit of history for ya!

Shamrock was founded in 1911 and my great great grandfather was the first ever poilce chief! Since it was their 100th year celebration and they were also honoring my great great grandfather we were given the opportunity to be the GRAND MARSHALL'S of the parade! Whoot whoot!

After the Parade we walked around town. I had to take some pics of the historic Magnolia gas station.

Later that night we went to the concert and some of us got our boots scootin'! Ty Herndon was the featured band!

The next morning we woke up and headed out. G and I decided to travel down Route 66 some!

And then we took the long road home...

Lamp Re-do!

Since I'm sure you are all tired of seeing me organize day after day here is a little craft that I did!

We're in the process of painting and redecorating our living room and the black hanging lamps just didn't go anymore. {Neither does the wall of licence plates in the background but those are coming down soon! :-) }

So I sawped it out for a white one and added some twine around the bottom. I just hot glued it on there every couple of wraps.

Cute but it was lacking something... So I added some rosettes! I followed the same method as I did for my ornaments but instead of using the wood circles as the backing I used the lamp shade.

Much nicer! I love how it turned out! An added bonus was that this little project cost me NOTHING but about 10 minutes of my time! I love freebie projects!

Feature, Experiment, and Rosettes!

OMG! I'm uber excited today! I got my first feature! It may not seem like a lot to y'all but when your a baby blogger who's not even two weeks old getting your first feature it's quite exciting! Thank you for all of the support! I appreciate all of the wonderful comments and support I'm being given! Thank you thank you thank you!!! So I was a busy bee last night... I did an experiment. Would flat black paint work as chalkboard paint? Ummmm the answer is NO! At least not on glass... Maybe I'll do another experiment to see if it would work on another surface but it won't work on glass. I did about 4 coats and when I went to prime it with my chalk it started to peel off. It wasn't pretty...

So until I find a cheaper alternative to my new found love I'll keep dishing out $10 a quart on the stuff.

In other news... I think that me and the girls over at Shanty 2 Chic had the same idea. Well kinda. Have you seen their ruffle tree and the rosette tree? If not go check them out they are tooooo cute! I bought all of these wooden circles to make peppermint ornaments and well... I can't draw pretty peppermints. So I was thinking to myself what am I going to do with a bunch of wood circles?

And then I remember that my grandma was talking about how she loved fabric rosettes... So why not put them my tree??? Ok so the Shanty girls and I didn't have the EXACT same idea but it's similar. They made a little tree covered in rosettes and I made rosette ornaments to cover my big tree. I followed their instructions on how to make the rosettes but I didn't want a button in the middle of mine. So after folding my strip of fabric in half I folded the end in half again and again then rolled it so that it made a tiny bud.

It's kinda hard to see because of me trying to hold tight but go with it! :-)

Then I put a dab of glue (hot glue) in the center of the wood circle and pressed down. Then I started twirling and gluing... I would twirl the fabric and then twist it around my bud in the center and glue ever so often. About the time my glue gun was ready to drop a glob I was there to use it!

Once I was done I had a bunch of rosettes. Now here is where I messed up... When you're at the end of your fabric and ready to glue it to the back of the wood go ahead and have your hanger ready to glue down at the same time. It will save you the extra step that I had to take of going back and adding my twine hanger.

Now you have beautiful rosette ornaments to adorn your Christmas Tree!!
