Not just about crafts...

I know this blog started out as being about crafts... but I want to make it more than that. I want to make it a place where people can relate to the daily life of a 20Something newlywed...

With that being said, I have a struggle that I'm not quite sure how to deal with...

I LOVE MY HUSBAND! He truly is my BEST friend.
{He puts up with me and that says A LOT! Lol}

I LOVE MY HUBS FAMILY! I love his parents, grandparents, and siblings! I LOVE THEM!

Here is where the problem arises... When I want to spend time with my family {who live 2.5 Hrs. away} I schedule a time to go see them. I call my mom and see what works best for her or vice versa and she'll come down to visit or we'll head out her way.

I don't just show up on her door step and say "HEY! What's for dinner!?!?!"  That's not how I was raised. I don't believe in just showing up at others houses. I believe you are supposed to be invited.

I know that MAY not be normal when it comes to family but for me it is.
{Like Bethenny Frankel says "There is NO NORMAL family"} Everyone is different.

The hubs thinks it's okay to just drop on by his Dad's house. {Who lives 15 minutes away} That may work for him but I don't feel the same. I feel like I'm imposing when we show up and his Dad's in the middle of cooking dinner. I don't think it's fair to just show up and assume it would be okay for us to hang out. I don't think it's fair to show up during supper time.

I've voiced this to the hubs before but I don't think he understands what I mean. He says he likes to be "spontaneous". I don't think that kind of spontaneity is okay when it comes to imposing on others.

At the same time I don't want to show up at his parents and be like "Hey why don't y'all ever invite us over for a family supper?"

I dunno I guess this whole mixing-two-family's-into-one thing is still kinda hard...

  1. I feel the same way! I can't just invite myself over to someone's house. But with G's family they are more laid back. I guess it just depends how you are raised.

  2. Your correct in thinking it may not be "correct" to show up unannounced. However, parents are always pleased to see their kiddos.

    You know...ya otta pay him back sometime!!
