Best Friday Ever!

I officially had the BEST Friday EVER! Not only did I receive an AMAZING review from Momma Hen {P.S. There's still time to enter the giveaway! Go check it out and enter!}
I also got a surprise visit.... from a guy that kinda looks like Jack Sparrow...

Okay... Minus the eye make-up, dirt, pirate clothes, and dread locks... Other than that he looks just like Captain Jack...

My DAD!!! Yup! It was a TOTAL surprise! I knew my little bro would be coming down but my dad?!?!?! He lives FOREVER and a day away! It was so good to see him! {in case you are wondering: Yes things are going great! We've had a lot to catch up on but things just keep getting better!}

Since Dad was down we all went out to eat at the best little seafood joint ever!

{Creepy Brother "Tom"}

And I changed some things up in the living room again... Notice anything different?

So how was your weekend?

Screen Door Art

First I want to start off today by saying WELCOME! I've notcied that little number over there on the right side go up! Welcome to 20Something it's a pleasure to have you here! How fitting that I choose today to say welcome to all of you and my project for the day is a new welcome sign!

Back when I picked up those window frames I also got an old screen door (for FREE!!)! I knew I could find something to do with it! I was originally planning on exchanging my 1970's metal screened door for this puppy... But the other day the wind blew it over and it cracked the top left of it. :-(

So I decided to turn it into some porch art! I had this idea floating around in my head for a couple of days. When I saw something similar over at The Lettered Cottage I KNEW it had to be a good idea!

I knew that I wanted to use the top of the door to hang a wreath... but I also wanted it to be a welcome sign.
So I printed out the word "welcome" in microsoft word. I used a bold font to make the letters wider and easier to paint as well.

I taped "welcome" to the underside of the screen. I busted out the black paint and a brush and went to work. (Make sure to really get the brush into the screen. It gives a much cleaner look if you really coat it!)

I let it dry for a bit and took off the paper! Now it looks like this!

I propped it up between my porch rockers!

I think it really makes the porch more inviting! I might go back over it a couple of more times so that you can see it from the road. But for now my guest can see it while we sit on the front porch with a glass of cold iced tea! Now all it needs is a spring wreath...

Drop Cloth Curtains!

I've been working on sprucing up around the casa lately! This weekend I made canvas drop cloth curtains! I must say... I LOVE THEM! Plus they are uber cheap and easy to make! Double Whammy!

I'll tell you how I made them but I don't have pics... Sorry I was too excited to get them done! I forgot the "process" pics!

Steps:
  1. I bought a canvas drop cloth from Wal-Mart- (A 6' x 9' was like $10)
  2. I brought it home and stuck it in the dryer for a bit to loosen it up. (In hindsight I might have washed it first but I didn't have the patients!)
  3. While it was drying I measured the windows. (I would LOVE to have full length drapes but it's not functional for us the way our couch sits so I measured from the top of the window frame to the bottom of the window ledge. It turned out that 6' was the PERFECT size! Wewhoo less sewing! And across I measured from the right side of the window casing to the left side of the center- So they would overlap a bit when closed)

(Sorry for the music notes... Arrows were HUGE!)

4. Next I hemmed the sides that weren't pre-sewn.
5. Then I measured off some stripes. (I did an 8" stripe every 9") Taped them and went to painting ( I used left over paint from the accent walls)!
6. I let them dry for a couple of hours hung them up!

(Check out that sexy car in the background! Haha)

I love the texture they add! And they actually block quite a bit of light!

Plus they are completely custom and match my paint!

So what did y'all do this weekend?!?!?!?!

Ask and you shall recieve...

Disclaimer: If you like birds; don't read! Slightly bad words may be present...

Yesterday I was looking for inspiration... After being cooped up all winter I haven't been feeling very crafty. I want to be outside sprucing up my front porch or garage sale hunting. Well ask for inspiration and you shall receive. It just may not be in the form you were looking for.

We've had out windows up lately. Letting the cool night air in. Whe-he-hell... This morning I was sitting in bed watching the news and doing my make-up. My usual morning routine. Then something crazy happened... A bird flew in my friggin' window!

 Now we used to have screens on our windows and would open them all the way to let in the breeze. (we don't have central heat or air so in the summer this is a must!) Not only do our dogs EAT windows, they jump through them. So we've taken down the screens and only open the window a couple of inches... BAD IDEA!

When the bird first flew in I just sat there stunned. I did a double take. This was my thought process:

  • A bird just flew through that window.
  • Wait... DO WHAT?!?!
  •  Did I REALLY just see that?
  • Ummmm yes that is a BIRD flying around in my bathroom!!!
  • Oh I better get a picture of this to put on the blog or they will NEVER believe me! (Grab Blackberry)
  • (Walk towards bathroom to see if I can get a good picture... Hemi-my dog- follows)

Hemi- Bird hunter!

Next thoughts...
  • If he would just sit on the ledge really still I could get a picture...
  • (Bird starts flying around) AHHHHHH Holy Crap I think I've seen this in a movie once... It's going to attack me!!!!
  • (Run and hide- Bird still circling the room, Lands in the curtains)
  • Oooo good photo op!
  • No!!!! The dogs are going to get him!!!
  • "Hemi, Deuce, GET DOWN! NO! Stop trying to get it! LEAVE THE DAMN BIRD ALONE!"

  • (Bird starts flying around AGAIN!)
More thoughts...
  • AHHHHH NOW IT'S REALLY MAD AND IT'S TRYING TO EAT ME!!!!
  • (SLAM- Bird hits window)
  • Holy Crap... Did that jut really happen?
  • "Hemi, Deuce! Leave it alone! Don't touch it!!!"
  • (Walking around the bed really slowly...)
  • OMG It did just happen!

Moral of the story... ALWAYS HAVE SCREENS ON YOUR WINDOWS!!!
Inspiration... Window screens will be re-installed THIS weekend!!

Happy Friday Y'all!

How to repair a window!

I love my dogs. I really do. But my dogs don't lick windows, they eat them.

Yeah Momma was NOT a happy camper! Insert Joint compound. My new best friend!

I taped off the window and put on the joint compound with an old knife.

I let it dry over night and then went to sanding!

It makes a HUGE mess! I mean HUGE! I had dust everywhere! But the payoff is well worth it!

After I sanded the window down I busted out the touch-up paint! And now you'd never be able to tell that my pups had themselves a window snack! Which window was it? Can't tell can you?

The only thing I can tell is that I need drapes BADLY! Maybe I can get that done this weekend... So much to do so little time!

Change...

I'm weird. Admittedly.
 I will dig through PILES of change for $2 worth of coins that "mean" something to me.
I've worked with money since I got my first job. I worked in the resteraunt industry forever!
I was a hostest {with the mostest}, a server, a bartender, a cocktail waitress, a carhop. Anything that delt with money in the resteraunt industry, I've done it.

 In turn this has made me quirky when it comes to money.
{I can't stand it when my cash is not bank faced! It drives me bannana sadwich that G doesn't do it with his moolah! Some things I guess you just can't change... haha change, get it? Uh nevermind...}

While I was working as a carhop at Chicken Express {BEST SWEET TEA IN THE WORLD FYI} my boss taught me about money. Before then I had never really noticed "wheat backs" or "drummer boys" or real siver coins. Now I will dig through change for hours on end searching for these things.

Case and point:

Yes after a 1 Gallon glass jar FULL of coins I found
$2.50 worth of "drummer boys" {Bisentential Quarters}
and 3 "wheat back" pennies

Wow I am truely a dweeb! What are your quirky habits? Do you dig through piles of coins? Please tell me I'm not the only dork out there. If not coins do you collect something else that you think will one day be worth something?

In other news I'm working on fixing this:

Living Room Makeover!

  Remember when I told y'all in {this} post about how I was feeling overwhelmed by all of the beautiful homes out there in blogland?!?! There were soooo many great ideas out there that I just wanted to live in each of y'alls homes! I didn't want to re-do mine I just wanted to pack on up and move in with y'all! Haha. Okay NOT really. But I did want to create a more mature home for G and I.

The teal walls and records weren't exactly feeling very grown up.

{Best picture I had of the records on the wall. Excuse the "fish" face!}

{My craft corner before}

So we got to prepping and painting...

And now we have our new living room!

I hung up my {chicken wire window to picture frame} as the new focal point! G got our new trunk coffe table for FREE from a lady he works with! I also painted my black hutch white!

We hung old family photos on the record wall! We still have a ton of space for more!
{Hint hint wink wink family!}

And now my craft corner is more suitable for living room storage! I still need to figure out what I want to replace the Chevelle sign with...

One more look at the before and afters!

There is still work to be done like hanging curtains and touch up paint but I think it's a heck of a lot better! What do y'all think?? Any suggestions? Anything y'all would have done differently?

I tell ya! It's a comedy of errors around here! I'm hoping to get it fixed by tonight so I can show you all! Stick with me while I try to figure all this hoopla out!
