Drop Cloth Curtains!

I've been working on sprucing up around the casa lately! This weekend I made canvas drop cloth curtains! I must say... I LOVE THEM! Plus they are uber cheap and easy to make! Double Whammy!

I'll tell you how I made them but I don't have pics... Sorry I was too excited to get them done! I forgot the "process" pics!

Steps:
  1. I bought a canvas drop cloth from Wal-Mart- (A 6' x 9' was like $10)
  2. I brought it home and stuck it in the dryer for a bit to loosen it up. (In hindsight I might have washed it first but I didn't have the patients!)
  3. While it was drying I measured the windows. (I would LOVE to have full length drapes but it's not functional for us the way our couch sits so I measured from the top of the window frame to the bottom of the window ledge. It turned out that 6' was the PERFECT size! Wewhoo less sewing! And across I measured from the right side of the window casing to the left side of the center- So they would overlap a bit when closed)

(Sorry for the music notes... Arrows were HUGE!)

4. Next I hemmed the sides that weren't pre-sewn.
5. Then I measured off some stripes. (I did an 8" stripe every 9") Taped them and went to painting ( I used left over paint from the accent walls)!
6. I let them dry for a couple of hours hung them up!

(Check out that sexy car in the background! Haha)

I love the texture they add! And they actually block quite a bit of light!

Plus they are completely custom and match my paint!

So what did y'all do this weekend?!?!?!?!

  6. Very nice! I am working on striped curtains myself, only I am actually sewing stripes of fabric on instead of painting. Your pictures make me wish I had gone the paint route.
